Ballads and Sung Poetry

For Musicology: The Sound of Fashion, each designer was assigned a genre of music to design for.  I was assigned Ballads and Sung Poetry.
For my collection of three looks, I chose three types of Ballads and Sung Poetry to represent; Historic Ballads, Love Ballads, and Legendary Ballads.

Legendary Ballads
Modeled by Jaida Barber

Much of this look is inspired by legends such as Robin Hood.  I chose a more form-fitting and dramatic silhouette to help portray the drama of early legends.  Text from these ballads can be seen on the chiffon ruffle of the skirt.  I also added a brown vest with some leaf charms as a nod to ancient fairytales.

Love Ballads
Modeled by Emma-Lee McGill

For this look, I chose to blend a softer, traditional princess-seamed silhouette with edgy pleats that open like a book's pages.  Each pleat is decorated with text from traditional and modern love ballads.  The sleeves are trimmed with golden floral lace, and lined with a tapestry material.

Historic Ballads
Modeled by Charles Gilman

For historic ballads, I chose to maintain a mostly traditional silhouette.  I gave the shirt dramatic poet sleeves gathered at the forearm in a Juliet style.  For the pants, I chose a suede and made them in a jogger style with golden leaves making runner's stripes down the side to help bring in a modern element.  The capelet is decorated with lines from Historic Ballads and is mostly left blank to represent how much of history is still being written.
